Why Your Card Payments are Safe and Secure

We sometimes get questions from residents about their credit card and online payments, wondering if they are secure. Maybe it’s because laundry payment has traditionally been with coin, and now there are so many other options. We here at Coin Meter take precaution to make sure that your payments are safe, and want you to know what we are doing to protect you:

We’re PCI Compliant.

Being PCI Compliant means that we are complying with 12 data security requirements set by the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Council. Depending upon the size of a business, the PCI Council recommends a set of security precautions such as firewalls, anti-virus protection, and password use. PCI takes ongoing compliance and monitoring; it’s not a one-time set-it-and-go situation. You can read more about PCI Compliance here:

Your Data is Encrypted.

We also use card data encryption, which masks your credit card data with special characters, letters and numbers while the data is being transferred to the payment processor and onward to get authorized through your bank. We do not store your credit card number for future transactions, so there is no risk to your data in our system.

Smart Laundry Cards Don’t Hold Data.

When you use our smart laundry card system, which collects payment and then provides residents with a laundry card to use at the laundry machines, the credit card data is not put onto the card. This system simply allows the value to be added to the card through our payment machines, or online, which is also encrypted before allocating the value to the card.

It’s More Safe than Phone or Email!

If you’re giving your credit card information to someone over the phone or email, it’s usually not encrypted data, so we don’t recommend you do that for any merchant unless they have told you that it is indeed safe to do so, and how they are protecting it.

Mobile Payments Are Even Safer!

With credit cards or cash, you always have the risk of losing them. And with credit cards, somebody could copy your numbers and make a fraudulent purchase. But most mobile phones have 2-step authentication protection, just to unlock the phone! Most banks also have further protection within their own apps. You’re much more likely to be at risk for what you download, or links you click on.
